Celebrate With Us - 90th Anniversary of CFUW London

It’s a 90th birthday celebration for the Canadian Federation of University Women – London Club, founded in 1920 when it was granted its charter by our national federation. CFUW, as it is known, is a national non profit, non-governmental organization with clubs across Canada. Next year our national Annual General Meeting is being hosted by a club in Newfoundland.

The Canadian federation is a member of the larger group, the International Federation of University Women (IFUW) with clubs worldwide, from the U.K. to Argentina, Japan, and beyond.

Members are women university graduates and women with equivalent education who wish to continue to educate themselves in the company of other like-minded women. To that end, clubs participate in advocacy to create or improve government policy on issues touching women – education, the environment, social justice, women’s equality, human rights, --- issues where women graduates can use their education to effect change.

In London, members enjoy their explorations in many ways, through our monthly speakers and our interest groups, such as a reading and discussion group, a hiking group, a wine-tasting group, or a current affairs group. Groups emerge and change according to member interests. This year a guided hike on a side trail of the Bruce Trail near Wiarton was fun and inspiring. Our now well known creative writing contest for children, “Write On!”, was capped by a banquet at the Delta Armouries where we enjoyed the company of the contest winners and their families. If you yearn to learn more about London and area, or the world beyond, come join us for the adventure.

CFUW-London Club will be celebrating its 90th birthday at the Aeolian Hall on Wednesday, October 13 at 7:00 P.M. You are invited to join present and past CFUW members for an evening of music and entertainment by Clark Bryan and his music arts students. Admission is free. Refreshments will be served.
